My name’s Cory Williams and I’m the Swinburne IP (industry placement) “kid” here at SCT. You could say that I’m fresh out of Uni, but that’s not true (I’m still there one day a week completing my Multimedia Design honors at Swinburne University).

Why on earth would I do industry placement with Square Circle Triangle?
SCT makes very cool websites
SCT has a sweeeeeet studio
SCT employs interesting, talented and big-brained people
SCT is constantly on the move

That’s the gist of it, industry placement is the beginning for me and starting it with SCT has been great. In the beginning you are unsure where you slot into the whole scheme of things, but as time rolls on you find your feet and gain the confidence to push your ideas and designs.

Now this post is all about my experiences here at SCT… and my fresh-eyed view on the industry as a whole.

I’ve come into the industry while the business world is in a rocky state due to the global financial crisis. I hear talk of unemployment, cutbacks and a lack of new work being thrown around. But from what I’ve seen, business is about being smarter - with client’s money and their money. When done right there is no better medium than the internet to reach your audience.

It does not mean the death of newspapers, commercial TV or radio ads by any means, but it means more and more business will start making in-roads into The Cloud - that is “the internet” - for a smarter means of marketing themselves and their products.

What does the mean for SCT?
From what I have witnessed it means more and more work - with SCT providing a strong emphasis on accountability and differentiation. It’s not entirely a bad thing, but it’s a change the whole industry may need to adjust to.
